A 10-minute English check-in to start Year 11 with clarity, confidence and a plan. Starting Year 11 can feel overwhelming. There is suddenly a lot of talk about mock exams, GCSEs and revision, but before students start doing more, it is important that they understand where they are now and what actually needs their attention. The Year 11 English Reset is a short, guided reflection designed to help students pause, look back at Year 10 and identify their priorities for English Language and English Literature. Rather than giving students another revision checklist, this resource encourages them to think honestly about their confidence, strengths, gaps and study habits before turning those reflections into a simple action plan. Inside the reset, students will: reflect on their progress and experiences in Year 10 assess their confidence across key English Language skills identify strengths and gaps in English Literature recognise the habits or difficulties that may be holding them back choose clear priorities for the start of Year 11 create their own September English action plan set an intention for the student they want to become by the end of Year 11 Who is it for? Download my annotated copy of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s England in 1819, taken straight from one of my GCSE English lessons. These are real handwritten lesson annotations, designed to help students understand the poem and see the kinds of ideas and analysis we explore together during lessons. The annotations cover: Key quotations and language analysis Shelley’s presentation of power, poverty and oppression Monarchy and government The role of the Church The historical context of the Peterloo Massacre Sonnet form and iambic pentameter The shift towards hope at the end of the poem This is ideal for students studying AQA GCSE English Literature: Worlds and Lives who want a clear, accessible starting point for revising the poem. It can be used for independent revision, alongside school notes, or as a starting point for planning comparison essays.
